A Day Trip To Echuca

IMG_3563

My family always went on holidays to Echuca when I was a child, so when my girlfriend was out visiting from London, and I took her down to Melbourne to meet my family I decided that we simply had to go for an Echuca visit.

What many people don’t know is that before I was bitten by the theatre bug I was training to be a steam engineer on the boats at Echuca. I’ve always been a bit of a history geek, and it was probably because of my exposure to these boats as a child.

If you’re from Melbourne, or nearby, Echuca is a great day trip location, or perfect short stay. I was surprised to find this trip how much of a foodie location it’s become. There’s a beautiful chocolate shop, you can get cheeses and wine, and tea! Truly a great spot for the travelling gourmet!

The Port Of Echuca has also recently had a number of renovations with a giant new visitor centre, which is really nicely designed. Go for a cruise on a paddle steamer, experience the history of the town, relax by the Murray River and let your cares flow away with it.
