50 Awesome Melbourne Things: Michaels Camera Museum

IMG_1483Above Michaels Camera store on Elizabeth street is a fantastic little free museum filled with all sorts of goodies for those obsessed with photography.

In a series of glass cabinets sorted by maker are numerous cameras and accessories from throughout the history of the image capturing device.

There are old accordion style cameras with the bellows, old SLRs, fancy gold plated and limited edition cameras as well as promotional materials and some other quirky tid bits such as the machine gun targeting camera above.

Everything is clearly labelled with dates and details and the whole museum is a great way to kill some time, especially if you’re in the area when it’s raining.

Plus if you get the urge to get your own camera and start adding to the history of the device yourself, you only need to walk back downstairs to the shop.

Michaels Camera Museum is open 7 days a week. For a full list of opening hours and more details click here.
