Last night the Bryce Ives directed production of Return To The Forbidden Planet at the Monash Academy of Performing Arts launched itself into hyperspace taking it’s audience on a mad journey through a galaxy far, far away.
In a universe where nothing is truly as it seems, where all the men are merely women, seven scintillating sisters, two token males and a mentally unstable stage manager took to the stage to unleash galactic anarchy, bringing the house down with renditions of classic hits ‘She’s Not There’, ‘Who’s Sorry Now?’, ‘Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood’ and ‘Born To Be Wild’.
The show marked a return to the stage for Sean Bryan after a two year hiatus from performing, will this lead to more onstage antics in the near future? Who knows!
Comedian, and Green Guide writer for The Age, Daniel Burt tweeted that the show was “Typical Bryce Ives magic…Rollicking, absurdist & sexy”
Return To The Forbidden Planet plays at the Alexander Theatre until Saturday the 29th of September, 2012. Book your tickets here.
