While most famous on Pontes Des Arts, you’ll find a number of bridges across the Seine bear Lovers Locks.
Legend states that when you come to Paris you should write you and your partners name on a lock, attach it to the bridge, then throw the key into the river, then your love will last as long as the lock remains, ideally, forever.
Of course, the truth is there’s such a giant lock build up throughout the year that the council comes along and chops them off every so often.
It’s still a nice notion though, somewhat like throwing a coin into the Trevi Fountain or writing your wish on a piece of Times Square New Years Eve confetti. Plus it makes for some great pictures, and a communal piece of street art made from people all over the world.
You’ll find them on many of the bridges around the Louvre and Notre Dame.
