Back at around the 4 month mark of my 12 Month US visa I was having serious doubts that I’d be around for much longer. Nothing was going well, I was broke, unemployed, and about to be homeless. However everything turned around when I got to Chicago, so when my 6 month anniversary of being in the States came up it was time to celebrate.
My new roller coaster addiction seemed to be the way to go, so we borrowed a friend’s car and travelled out to Six Flags Great America (could the title be any more fitting for a day in celebration of Six Months Stateside?).
We spent the day on coasters and rides across the park, including The Raging Bull and our favourite, an old rickety wooden coaster called The Viper. The day was incredibly hot, we sweated it out in lines, and at one point I even got stung by a wasp. It didn’t stop us from having fun though, getting soaked on log flumes, racing on the American Eagle, and looping on the Demon.
A huge storm blew in at the end of the day, so we headed for some safety- and some food. Again fittingly at an Outback Steakhouse, the Australian Themed steakhouse. Out the front hung an American Flag. There’s definitely none of them in outback.
I definitely couldn’t think of a better way to spend the day. Though I could have done without the wasp bite, and getting saturated on my arrival home in Chicago.
